Managed Transportation involves negotiating prices for specific shipping lanes and volumes with shippers. It typically lasts 6 to 12 months, with possible extensions for projects or ongoing long-term agreements.
Contracted Customer Rate
Rate Setup
Create Tariff Profile
To create the sell tariff profile, from the BackOffice, click on Rates > Tariffs > Add New Tariff.
-
Contract Rate: Check the box labeled "Contract Rate." This selection will remove the requirement to assign a carrier, as the contract rate is specifically designed to establish rates on the sell side of a shipment.
- Name: Although the name will be built automatically, enter a preliminary name to save the tariff. If the tariff is blanket for all customers, the name will start with a "BL. " If the tariff is customer-specific, it will begin with a "CS." The customer's name or the organization under which you are creating the tariff.
- Mode: Select the mode for which the tariff is for.
- Effective Date/Expiration Date: The system will default to today's effective date and 20 years' expiration date.
- Service level: Defaults to 'Normal' if nothing is selected.
- Status: Whether the tariff is visible to the users and customers.
- Pricing Instructions: These will show up, along with the rate, under the Generate Smart Quote section.
- Tariff Owner: Typically, it will be the accounting organization or the parent account.
- Check the "Customer Specific" box if it needs to be linked to a particular customer.
- Bill To Type: 1st or 3rd party collect and prepaid are the options.
- Bill To Address & Account Number: These fields automatically fill in with the tariff owner's organization address on the Bill of Lading (BOL). You can enable the Bill To Address option to edit the address manually and include the account number as needed.
- Tariff Settings: Select if the tariff will be available for the front office, the rate requirements, and the lane's initial points. These can then be modified and adjusted on the tariff lane.
For testing purposes, uncheck the Display In Front Office setting until the tariff works correctly, and check the "All US Points."
Tariff Profile
After creating the tariff, the system will generate a tariff profile, including the selected lanes from the previous section. At the top of the profile, users will find the following features:
- Activity Log: Record all the changes made to the tariff.
- Accessorials: Tariff and lane.
- Tariff Tools: This section allows you to attach documents related to the tariff, add tariff links and liability coverage, and modify the tariff BOL.
- Import/Export CSV: Feature to export or import the tariff lanes and import tariff lane accessorials.
Sell Rate Calculation Methods
For detailed guidance on calculating your sell tariff, please refer to the "How to Create Manual Tariffs" article from the Tariff Lane section, which provides step-by-step instructions that can be applied in this process.
Rating the Sell Tariff
To generate rates from your sell tariff, simply utilize the Generate Smart Quote button within the TMS as you would with any standard tariff.
The system will display "Contracted Rate " in bold letters, making it easy to identify from the rest of the tariffs.
Selecting a Sell Tariff
LTL: Always begin by selecting the Buy tariff before choosing the Contracted Rate for the sell side of the shipment. If you select the Contracted Rate first, followed by the Buy tariff, the sell rate associated with the Buy tariff will replace the previously selected Contracted Rate.
Truckload: When creating a shipment, you can select the contracted rate right away. However, doing so will lock in the buy side of the shipment. You can still make changes to the buy side later by accessing the shipment details page after saving the shipment.
The system can display multiple Contacted Rates, but the customer staff must have the Show Multiple Rates permission.
