CardConnect
This article covers everything you need to know to get the CardConnect payment gateway up and running with Tai. You will find the prerequisites and credentials required before setup, a step-by-step configuration guide, an explanation of how payment profiles and charges work inside the TMS, and answers to the most common questions about supported payment types, data security, and what to do if a charge fails.
The CardConnect integration allows Tai TMS to process payments directly through the CardPointe Gateway (powered by CardConnect/First Data). Once configured, your organization can store customer payment methods securely, charge those stored profiles, and manage payment accounts, all from within Tai without handling raw card data.
Prerequisites
Before enabling this integration, your organization must have the following from CardConnect:
| Item | Description | Required? |
|---|---|---|
MerchId |
Your CardConnect Merchant ID. Provided by CardConnect when your merchant account is set up. | Required |
Username |
API username provided by CardConnect for authenticating requests. | Required |
Password |
API password associated with the username above. | Required |
If you do not yet have a CardConnect merchant account, you will need to contact CardConnect directly to obtain your credentials before you can configure the integration in your Tai's account.
Integration Setup
Once you have your CardConnect credentials in hand, share the following with your TAI Implementation contact or open a support request:

How It Works
The integration follows a tokenized profile model. Customer payment details are never stored in TAI — they live securely in CardConnect's vault. TAI holds only the references needed to charge or manage those stored profiles.
Payment Profile Lifecycle
Charge Requested in Tai → Taicalls CardConnect with Profile ID → Transaction processed → Reference ID returned to Tai.
Available Actions in TAI
| Action | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Add Payment Method | Customer's card or bank account details are sent to CardConnect, which returns a secure profile ID. That ID is saved in Tai linked to the payer organization. |
| Add Additional Payment Method | An additional card or bank account is added to an existing customer profile in CardConnect. |
| Charge a Customer | Tai sends the profile ID and amount to CardConnect. CardConnect processes the charge and returns a transaction reference ID, which TAI stores for record-keeping. |
| View Saved Payment Methods | Tai retrieves the stored profile from CardConnect and displays tokenized card/bank account details (last few digits, card type, expiry) for the user to review. |
| Delete a Payment Method | The selected payment method is removed from the CardConnect profile, and the reference ID is cleared in Tai. |
AVS and CVV Verification: CardConnect performs Address Verification (AVS) and CVV checks automatically during authorization. Tai processes the response and surfaces any errors to the user if a charge is declined. So make sure the bank account billing details match the information entered when adding a payment method.
Frequently Asked Questions
What card types are supported?
Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are supported for credit/debit card payments. ACH / eCheck (bank account) payments are also supported.
Are refunds or voids supported?
Refunds and voids through Tai are not currently supported via this integration. If you need to reverse a transaction, you will need to process that directly within the CardConnect/CardPointe portal.
What happens if a charge fails?
If CardConnect returns a declined or error response, Tai will display an error toaster message with the reason provided by CardConnect (for example, insufficient funds or AVS mismatch). No charge will be recorded in Tai for failed transactions.
Can a customer have multiple saved payment methods?
Yes. Multiple cards or bank accounts can be saved under a single customer profile. Each payment method is stored as a separate account within the same CardConnect profile, and any of them can be selected when processing a charge.
What if a customer's saved profile has no active payment methods?
If Tai attempts to retrieve a profile and finds no active accounts, it will not display any payment methods, and the customer will need to add a new payment method before any charges can be processed.
Is my customer's card data stored in Tai?
No. Tai never stores raw card numbers or bank account numbers. All sensitive data is tokenized by CardConnect, and only a secure token is returned. Tai stores the profile reference and the token, not the actual payment credentials.
Does Card Connect work with credit card processing fees?
Yes. Card Connect also can be used with credit card processing fees.
