Carrier Cargo Insurance Warning

The TMS provides real-time alerts during carrier selection in shipment creation and editing pages to warn brokers if a carrier’s cargo insurance is insufficient or missing. This ensures brokers are aware of coverage gaps before confirming a carrier.

When Does the Warning Trigger?

A Cargo Insurance Warning is triggered if the shipment's declared value exceeds the carrier’s cargo insurance coverage or if no coverage is provided at all.

However, the warning will only display under the following conditions:

  1. Declared Value is entered first: If the declared value is set before selecting a carrier, the system will immediately check the carrier’s cargo insurance coverage and display the warning if applicable.
  2. Carrier is selected first: If a carrier is chosen before entering a declared value, the warning will not appear right away. It will only display when:
    1. The carrier is re-selected after entering the declared value.
    2. The user saves the changes and revisits the page.

⚠️ Note: This workflow is triggered exclusively by the Declared Value reference number and should not be confused with the Insurance Declared Value reference number.

How the Warning Icons Are Displayed

Carrier Selection Screen

  • An icon and tooltip will indicate when a carrier’s cargo coverage may be insufficient.
    • Red Shield Icon: Cargo Insurance coverage is lower than the shipment’s declared value.
    • Yellow Shield Icon: Cargo Insurance coverage information is not available for the selected carrier.

Carrier Selection Warning Modal

If a broker selects a carrier without sufficient cargo insurance coverage, a warning modal will appear.

  • The broker must explicitly accept or decline using the carrier.

Shipment Alerts

If you choose to proceed with a carrier that does not provide adequate coverage, two alerts may be automatically generated for the shipment, depending on the selected carrier.

  • If cargo insurance is insufficient.

  • If cargo cargo insurance is not available.

Best Practices

  • Declared Value as Required
Make the Declared Value reference number a mandatory field. This will help guarantee that all users within your organization are entering this information, allowing you to quickly verify whether the selected carrier provides adequate coverage for the shipment.
