In-Line Editing on the Shipment Detail Page
Make updates faster and more seamlessly with inline editing; every change you make is saved instantly, without page reloads or delays. It’s a high-performance experience designed to keep your workflow smooth and efficient.
Why It Matters
- The Edit Record workflow uses a comprehensive save process, reviewing every shipment field, even those that haven't changed.
- Inline editing only updates what you need, reducing overhead and significantly improving performance.
- The Rating section will be supported soon, completing the full inline editing experience.
This improvement is part of Tai's long-term vision to streamline operations, eliminate friction, and boost performance where it matters most.
How It Works
Anywhere you see editable shipment data, you can:
- Click on the field you want to change.
- The text becomes an input box you can type in.
- Click outside the box to save automatically, or use the ✔ or ✖ icons to save or cancel.
Where You Can Use In-Line Editing
End Customer
Update the end customer on a shipment directly from the shipment detail page by clicking the pencil icon next to the customer name. This opens a customer search modal to select the new end customer.

Rules that apply when changing the end customer:
- The pencil icon is only visible to users within the customer's hierarchy who have the required Change Customer permission.
- The option is disabled if an invoice already exists for the end customer. A tooltip will indicate why the field cannot be edited.
- Customer selection is scoped to customers within the same accounting level as the current end customer — cross-organization changes are not permitted.
- If no bill or invoice exists, the customer hierarchy is fully rebuilt to reflect the new customer.
- If a bill exists, the hierarchy is not changed — only the end customer is updated.
- If a tariff was in place and no accounting has started, the tariff is removed and rebuilt to reflect the new customer.
- All changes are recorded in the activity log, including any sales rep commission updates.
Shipment References
To add or edit a reference number, click Add Reference Numbers in the Shipment References panel. Choose from Custom or Standard Reference Numbers. The new number appears instantly for editing in place — click away or confirm with ✔ to save.

Notes and Instructions
Click on any note field to edit it directly. Editable note areas include:
- Origin Stop Notes and Instructions
- Destination Stop Notes and Instructions
- Price Calculation Notes
- Invoice Notes

Accessorials (Coming Soon)
Inline accessorial editing is available in three locations:
- Pickup Accessorials
- Shipment Accessorials
- Delivery Accessorials
Click inside the accessorial input field and start typing — a type-ahead dropdown appears with available options. Select one to add it. To remove an existing accessorial, click the trash can icon next to it.
![]()
If the shipment already has a tariff in place, adding or removing an accessorial will trigger a warning letting you know the shipment should be re-rated. The tariff is not automatically removed — the warning is informational.
Commodities and Items to Ship
Click directly on any value to edit it. The field turns into an input box — confirm with ✔ or cancel with ✖.
Commodity Details
Clicking a commodity row opens the full line for editing:
- Handling
- Units
- Pieces
- Total Weight
- Description
- H.M. (Hazardous Material)
- Length, Width, Height
Automatic calculations such as CBF (Cubic Feet) and PCF (Pounds per Cubic Foot) remain locked to prevent accidental changes.
Commodity Reference Numbers
Click the reference number icon on a commodity row to open the Reference Numbers modal. Default types available on every commodity:
- Marks
- Shipper Reference Number
- Customer PO Number
- Temperature
- Child Shipment Id

In addition to these default types, your organization can add extra commodity reference number types. Any additional types configured for your account will appear in the same modal alongside the standard ones.
Items to Ship Details
- Trailer Size
- Trailer Type
- Units (in/lbs)
- Mileage
- Linear Feet
Total Handling Units, Total Pieces, and Total Weight are read-only — these are calculated by the system.

Carrier
Click the edit icon on a transit leg card to open the Edit Carrier modal.

Editable fields include:
- Carrier name and SCAC code
- Dispatcher name, email, phone, and additional information
- Carrier notes
- Cargo insurance status
- Broker carrier status
A few things to be aware of:
- The edit icon is only available when no bill exists for that transit leg.
- If the carrier is changed, the tariff profile is automatically removed and will need to be re-selected.
- If a factoring company was assigned, it is also removed when the carrier changes.
- A delete icon appears alongside the edit icon when no bill or invoice exists and the leg is not a Linehaul or Consolidation type.
