This article will provide an overview of blind shipments and outline the workflow within the TMS.
What is a Blind Shipment
A blind shipment is a logistical practice designed to protect the identity of the supplier from the consignee or carrier. This approach is particularly beneficial when confidentiality is crucial, such as in competitive markets, sensitive transactions, or the transport of high-value goods. By obscuring the supplier’s identity, shippers can prevent the consignee from discovering the source of the products, thus maintaining a level of anonymity that can be essential for business strategy.
Enabling Blind Shipments
To set up blind shipments, you need to generate a blind document using the Content Templates located in the LSP tab.
You can either duplicate the source code of the Bill of Lading (BOL) if you wish to use it as your blind document, or you have the option to design a custom document tailored to your needs.
At this time, only a single document type can be designated as a Blind Document.
Blind Shipment Document Generator
After creating your Blind Document, you can access the Blind Shipment Document Generator, which is located in the Document Manager on the shipment details page.
Workflow
- Within this modal, you can create your blind document by specifying a name, selecting the attachment type, and determining the access level (Private, Public, or Admin).
- In the "Include in Document" section, use the checkboxes to choose specific information you want to either exclude or change. When we say "change," we mean you can replace the original details with new information if needed.
- This flexibility extends to details, such as pickup and delivery locations, pickup and delivery instructions, commodity information, linehaul carrier, and shipper reference number.
- Once you save your Blind Document, it will be automatically added as an attachment in the Document Manager, making it available for sending through the Send Message modal.
Additionally, the system will generate a Blind alert, allowing you to easily identify your blind shipment among standard shipments.
